North Myrtle Beach, SC – North Myrtle Beach is joining hundreds of cities, states and travel-related businesses nationwide in recognition of the 25th annual National Tourism Week, to be held May 10-18. Designated by Congress and established by presidential proclamation in 1983, the event celebrates the value and scope of the nation’s 740 billion dollar travel and tourism industry, and the economic and social contributions it brings to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.
The North Myrtle Beach Chamber is doing their part to promote North Myrtle Beach as a premier tourist destination. In recognition of National Tourism Week, the Chamber’s Information Specialist will be traveling to the SC Welcome Centers, where they will set up a booth to showcase North Myrtle Beach and all our city has to offer. In the Chamber’s Visitor’s Center we will be serving refreshments to visitors and also holding a drawing for a “North Myrtle Beach Vacation Getaway”.
Tourism, the largest industry in South Carolina, has been a major driver of quality of life and opportunity in our state. In South Carolina alone, the tourism industry currently contributes $10.9 billion a year to Gross State Product and employs approximately 216,000 people.
National Tourism Week is sponsored annually by the Travel Industry Association, a Washington, D.C. - based trade association that represents the common interests and concerns of travel in America.
