North Myrtle Beach Special Education School/Business Partnership
“Preparing Students for the Future”
North Myrtle Beach High School is partnering with six North Myrtle Beach businesses for a new “Occupational Diploma Program.” This program focuses on preparing students to graduate with employability skills, self-advocacy, and basic skills necessary to be successful on the job and in life.
Purpose of Training: The aim of the community-based instruction is to ensure youths with disabilities are involved in a structured job training program and that this experience is related to the student’s occupational goal.
How it Works: Eligible students from all nine attendance areas with Horry County Schools will be assessed in areas of interest and competence and placed on-site for a two week training period. Each training site will be provided a job coach or other related professionals to ensure program success. No more than 4-5 students would be placed at any one site. Placements will be made at the discretion of the participating business. Please note: Business partners will be invited to a luncheon prior to training for a program overview and appreciation.
Employer/Business Owner Benefits:
A very special thank you to the following businesses who have agreed to be training sites: Ryan’s Steakhouse, Bi-Lo, Barefoot Resorts, Masons Tire, Home Depot and the NMB Chamber.
