North Myrtle Beach, SC - The North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce Convention & Visitors Bureau and North Myrtle Beach business leaders are coming together to promote tourism through the Chamber's recently announced Building North Myrtle Beach Campaign (BNMB).
Local hotel and vacation rental facilities plan to implement a voluntary $1 per night fee, through a Marketing Co-op, with the proceeds being used to fund out-of-area marketing promotions as part of the Chamber's new Five Year Sustainable Growth and Prosperity Initiative, Building North Myrtle Beach Campaign.
The voluntary accommodations charge will fund Strategy I, of the BNMB Campaign to "Grow the Visitor and Destination Market." This strategy has a five year budget of $1.5 million.
"This voluntary initiative will help create jobs, and ultimately lower the tax burden for local residents," said Rick Elliott, Chairman of the Building North Myrtle Beach Campaign. "There are many that believe tourism promotion is a job for the private sector, not the public sector, and so it is great to see the business community stepping up to the plate."
The comprehensive BNMB Campaign is a private sector driven plan, which is comprised of three strategies:
I. Grow the Visitor and Destination market. Five year budget: $1.5 M
II. Diversify the Local Economy & Employment Base. Five Year budget: $500,000
III. Equip the Chamber to function as the focal point for growth & development and state-of-the-art business resource and Visitors Center. Five year budget: $500,000
"These additional dollars will allow for a targeted marketing message to better brand North Myrtle Beach businesses and North Myrtle Beach," Elliott added.
Chamber members discussed the voluntary program at their Marketing Co-op meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 4, 2011.
