USBA (United States Basketball Association) is coming to North Myrtle Beach! Over 8,000 players and their families will be here June 19th -30th for this annual basketball tournament. Monday, May 21 the North Myrtle Beach Parks and Recreation Department is taking a bus to Florence, SC to indulge in a tasty experience at Young Pecans Gift Shop, where you will find candies, gift baskets, jams and more. Then you’re off to the Columns, the last working plantation in the Pee Dee. Greeted in period clothing, you will be given a tour of the house and gardens while hearing the history of the plantation. Next is a delicious Southern lunch graciously served in the atmosphere of an old well-known boarding house, Webster’s Manor and then on to the South Carolina Tobacco Museum. This trip is completed with a chocolate lover’s delight, a stop at the Russell Stover Outlet. The tour is $45 per person and includes a tour guide, lunch, transportation and all admissions. The 8th annual Cycle to the Sea is this weekend, April 26th - April 28th. Twenty- six athletes from the Adaptive Sports & Adventure Program (ASAP) at Carolinas Rehabilitation will use his or her arms to pedal a handcycle the entire 180-mile route from Monroe to North Myrtle Beach. The ride will take place rain or shine and will end at the Baywatch Resort in North Myrtle Beach. Cyclists will begin arriving at 3 pm on Saturday, April 28th. In preparation for the upcoming hurricane season the chamber has published an Emergency Operations Plan (EOP) as an added benefit to our chamber members. This informative EOP Plan includes maps, checklists and important contacts to protect your home and business in the event of a hurricane. For the upcoming hurricane season, a team of Colorado State University scientists predict: 17 named tropical storms, out of the 17 tropical storms, nine will grow into hurricanes and five intense hurricanes with winds above 110 mph. They also predict a 50 percent chance that a major hurricane will hit the U.S. East Coast! Please pick up your EOP from the front desk at the chamber office Monday – Friday 8:30 am – 5:30 pm before April 30th. Limit one per chamber membership.

Spring / Summer Sports Leagues kicking off at SportsZone! SportsZone in Little River is currently seeking teams to fill the Spring / Summer session of its adult and youth sports leagues. Spring Volunteer Meeting for Museum of Coastal Carolina and Ingram Planetarium - The Museum of Coastal Carolina and Ingram Planetarium Volunteers will hold their spring meeting on Tuesday, April 24, from 4-6 p.m. at the Museum (21 East Second Street, Ocean Isle Beach, NC 28467). Volunteers will learn about the new programs for summer and will get a preview of the new exhibit, Megabites!, followed by wine and hors D'oeuvres. Chamber Member Gets Award - Myrtle Beach Showcase won first place honors for the best booth presentation at the Southern Women's Show (March 9th-11th) in Memphis, TN. in the Travel/Leisure category. They were competing against 10 other vacation destinations across the country who were also vying for this coveted award. This is their 17th award in 11 years.
