April 9, 2018, North Myrtle Beach, S.C. – Leadership and executives from the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) announced today that they will be establishing a North Myrtle Beach Innovation Center (NMBIC) in partnership with the 5thT Innovation Group and Coastal Carolina University.

“The announcement of the North Myrtle Beach Innovation Center opening signals a historic partnership between the three entities: the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, CVB, Coastal Carolina University and the 5thT Innovation Group,” said North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, CVB vice president of resource development and member engagement, Claire Yoder. “The North Myrtle Beach Innovation Center will help foster entrepreneurship and diversify our economy as part of the “Building North Myrtle Beach 2.0” initiative.”

The center will be administered by the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, CVB and the 5thT Innovation Group, an independent nonprofit corporation overseen by a volunteer Board of Directors from Coastal Carolina University, Horry Georgetown Technical College and community partners.

The North Myrtle Beach Innovation Center (NMBIC) is a business incubation center that focuses on the development of emerging technology, life science, information technology and service businesses. It is designed to foster entrepreneurial growth and sustainable companies in our community.

The NMBIC is a public/private economic development effort, which is funded by the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, CVB’s Building North Myrtle Beach 2.0 Initiative, regional business community, major educational and other leading private foundations and is administered through the 5thT Innovation Group, a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization.

The NMBIC is a combination of expert consulting, mentoring and the research support from its academic and economic development partners that provide select companies the developmental support necessary to launch a business. In the Fall of 2018 the NMBIC will offer office space and meeting environment needed to take a business from concept to reality.

“This initiative, with the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, CVB, is a continuation of the expansion of the 5thT Innovation Group into a dynamic and growing area of the Grand Strand.  We will now have three locations, the NMBIC adding to our existing Innovation Centers in Georgetown and Conway.  This expansion will allow us to further support entrepreneurs in the region though our business development activities and micro-loan program” said Michael Roberts, President of the 5thT Board of Directors and Vice-President for Research and Dean of Science at Coastal Carolina University.

Through a partnership with the North Myrtle Beach Chamber of Commerce, CVB, Conway and Georgetown Innovation Centers and 5thT, the North Myrtle Beach Innovation Center (NMBIC) will help identify financing sources and initiate contacts for strategic partnerships and business alliances. Most importantly, the NMBIC will assist in taking a business to the next level of business plan development with the formulation of marketing plans and strategies to launch a successful business.
